Junas Zoomies

A free dog game you can play right now, in your browser.

Junas Zoomies is a free dog game you play in your browser. No download, no sign-up, no ads and no tracking. It works on a phone and on a computer, and it keeps working when you go offline.

The story

Juna is a real mixed-breed dog from Osnabrück in Germany. She gets what dog people call the zoomies: the sudden urge to run flat out for no reason at all. One day the treat tin tips over and rolls away. Juna runs after it, falls asleep on the way, and dreams herself through fifty hand drawn worlds, from a city street to the bottom of the sea to outer space.

A note about the language

The complete game interface can be switched between German and English with the language button in the main menu, including every text in the game. The controls also work without text: everything you have to avoid is marked on the ground. A yellow bar with an arrow pointing up means jump over this, a blue bar with an arrow pointing right means keep running and do not jump. Anything without a mark is scenery and cannot hurt you.

How to play

Collect treats for points. Collect several in a row for a multiplier. At the end of a run you can put a nickname on a worldwide leaderboard. No account needed.

Ten chapters, three paws per level

The main journey has 60 levels: ten chapters with five world runs and a chapter exam each. Every exam adds four terrain actions tied to its changing ground; completing three earns the terrain paw, while all four grant a perfect bonus. Completing the journey opens 40 optional mastery levels, while all 100 stable level IDs and 300 paws remain available. Progress is saved after every completed level. Each level awards paws for finishing, taking no hit, and meeting its chapter-specific mastery goal, such as jumps, barks, ducks, ramps or platforms.

Eleven surfaces also have a restrained physical feel: sand is soft, snow slippery, bog heavy and rock grippy. Transitions are smoothed and the factors balance out across all fifty worlds; jump height, hit boxes and special states such as zoomies remain unchanged.

Ten dogs, fifty worlds

Juna is free from the start. Eight more dogs unlock with treats you collect, each with an ability of its own that upgrades through up to five levels: a magnet, a shield, a sprint, a longer hang time at the top of a jump, and so on. The tenth is Fee, a dalmatian from a shelter. She cannot be bought at all — she is earned by collecting treats, and her ability is the only one that gives nothing: it takes a hit away. One hit that would end the run does not.

The fifty worlds each have their own colours, weather, wildlife and obstacles. The map arranges them as five full-screen adventure regions, each with its own island silhouette, route and three large animated landmarks. Each world also has an adaptive soundscape — city traffic and horns, grass and crickets, surf, forest birds, ice wind, frogs, lava and rumble. Visible moving objects receive matching footstep, rolling, wheel, flight, hopping or contact sounds; all 54 human types, 55 foreground species and 18 background species have their own activity or call profiles. A shared sound director keeps dense scenes within a fixed event budget and reserves room for voices, while every one of the ten playable dogs has a distinct recorded bark. Ten worlds have a set piece that happens once per run: a hot air balloon lifting off, a whale crossing the whole screen, a herd of deer leaping past.

Six subtle Freesound recordings add city, forest, ocean, space, arctic and market ambience to the map. There is no narrator: what happens is on screen. Passers-by still murmur as you run past, and that can be switched off.

Free, and free of everything else

There is no advertising, there are no in-app purchases and there is no analytics. Fonts, sounds and every image live on the same server as the game, so nothing is loaded from anyone else. Apart from those first-party game files, only the game's own leaderboard API is contacted when scores are viewed or submitted. Your progress stays in your browser.

There is one link out: a page listing TASSO e. V. and eight animal shelters around Osnabrück, where you can donate directly to them. The game takes nothing from any of it. There is no donation form here, no bank details and no payment window, only ordinary links to the charities' own pages.

Made without a game engine

The gameplay uses no sprite sheets. All ten dogs, every obstacle, every passer by and all fifty backdrops are drawn in code, frame by frame, in plain JavaScript. Static image files are used only for app icons, screenshots and link previews.
